Simcoe Prop Repair, a new marine propeller repair facility just south of Sutton, Ontario on the south side of Lake Simcoe, opened its doors for business on July 1, 2000. Although the company has a new building and new equipment, the resident craftsman and owner, Doug Leitch is anything but new to the business. He has been repairing propellers for 13 years. When his employers decided to pack up and move north, Doug decided to stay in his home community and launch his own business. Doug's considerable God-given talent is augmented by his love for his craft. Years of experience have honed and developed this talent to the point that Doug's reputation for his craftsmanship is spreading throughout the marine industry in Ontario. Although Doug applies the same care to all his propeller repairs, his outstanding craftsmanship becomes particually evident in the bronze and nibral market where closer tolerances are more critical. Doug also repairs skegs and replaces hubs. This is a family business. Doug's wife Caroline looks after the office work and helps out when ever an extra hand is needed. Their son Jacob joined his father in the shop in the spring of 2003. His apprenticeship is going very well, increasing the shop's productivity. The spring of 2003 also marked our expansion into machining of shafts, rudders, etc. Doug was delighted when his friend Andrew Cole offered his 16 years of machining experience to augment our service to the marine industry. You can reach Doug and Caroline at (905) 722-PROP (7767) or drop in and see them at 25223 Valley View Drive. Simcoe Prop. Repair Inc. is located between Baldwin and Sutton, just north of Old Homestead Road, west of Hwy. 48. |
